Ready for the Weekend

Calvin Harris Week
Song: Ready for the Weekend
Artist: Calvin Harris
Album: Ready for the Weekend

After hitting number one in the UK with his trancy first single "I'm Not Alone," Calvin returns next week with his second single and title track from his sophomore album, "Ready For the Weekend" which will be released the following week. "Weekend" has more of the Harris that we've come to know, bouncy, joyfull, and... well totally ridiculous.

Since it was first played on Pete Tong's radio show (and leaked to the internet) I've been quoting it's silly chorus; "I put on my shoes and I'm ready for the weekend." !?!?!?! Okay... when I first played this for my good friend Rich he said; "Sometimes, that's all you need." I think of that every time. Ha! Harris enlists female vocalist Mary Pearce, who has a big big voice and gives the track an classic dance feel. Of course... I love it, and really really can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Oh... but in typical Harris fashion, the remixes of the song by other artists all sort of suck.

"Ready for the Weekend" is a song recorded by Scottish born DJ, producer, and vocalist, Calvin Harris. It will be the second single to be released from his upcoming second album Ready for the Weekend on August 10, 2009.

Background

The song features guest vocals by British singer Mary Pearce, who previously worked as a backup vocalist for Beverly Knight,Lionel Richie and Chaka Khan. Remixes by High Contrast, Fake Blood and Dave Spoon were also announced. It made its world debut on June 12, 2009 with Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1. On July 13, 2009 it was the Popjustice song of the day. Harris performed the song at the iTunes Live Festival '09 on July 18, 2009 in London.

On April 10, 2009, Harris was interviewed by The Sun and commented on the song:

"It's different to the first single. It's still happy, dancey, with more singing. The hook's sung by a woman called Mary Pearce, who's a diva. She's got this great big voice and it's like a nod to an old dance classic. I love underground dance music but I also have an extreme love of commercial dance music. But only the good stuff."

Music video

A music video for the song was shot and released. It premiered on July 4, 2009, broadcast in the United Kingdom on T4 at 11:00 am. FHM model, Lauren Pope makes an appearance in the video. Several dancing females appear wearing red leotards to match Harris' magic portal, shirt and furniture. They next change into blue and yellow zip-up bathing suits, expanding the palette and multiplying endlessly, just in time for the weekend.

On July 23, 2009, it was reported that the video was removed from YouTube due to a copyright claim from another party. Harris stated that he was upset it had occurred and believed that the British Phonographic Industry had prompted the removal.

Ready for the Weekend is the upcoming second album by Calvin Harris. It is expected to be released on August 17, 2009.

Background

Harris had been working on the album since the release of his first album, I Created Disco, with the first tracks being recorded in 2008. On 3 April 2008, Harris stated that the only existing copy of his upcoming album work was lost when his laptop was misplaced during the baggage handling problems at the opening of London Heathrow Terminal 5. He later stated on the BBC'sGlastonbury Festival 2008 coverage that he got his baggage back including the album within a few days. Harris recently admitted however that this was an "untruth" as the album was not in his luggage at all, and that he hoped the lie would buy him some more time to finish recording the LP.

The first single, "I'm Not Alone" made its debut when it was performed in Sydney, Australia on New Year's Eve 2008. The single was played on BBC Radio 1 on 23 January 2009, on Pete Tong's radio show and was released in April 2009. It debuted in the UK Singles Chart at #1 on Easter Sunday on downloads alone, then stayed on top for a second week after the physical format had been released.

The single "Ready for the Weekend" was first announced on Harris' Twitter account and features singer Mary Pearce. Other tracks expected to be included on the album are "Worst Day" featuring Izza Kizza and "Yeah Yeah Yeah La La La" used in a Coca-Cola advertisement.

On 23 July 2009, it was reported that Harris' music video for "Ready for the Weekend" was removed from YouTube due to a copyright claim from another party. Harris stated that he was upset it had occurred and believed that the British Phonographic Industry had prompted the removal.
